1 killed, 28 missing after landslide in southwestern China

At least one person was killed and 28 people went missing after a landslide in southwestern China, AzVision.az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.

The landslide occurred Saturday in Junlian County in the Yibin city of Sichuan province and is still ongoing, hindering the rescue operation.

Two people were also injured by the landslide, while nearly 400 area residents have been evacuated.

The provincial authorities have mobilized around 1,000 personnel from the armed police, firefighting, emergency response, and other forces to carry out or assist the rescue efforts.

The landslide has transformed into debris flows due to continuous rainfall and geological conditions.

With a total volume of more than 100,000 cubic meters (over 3.5 million cubic feet), the accumulation of debris has stretched to an area of around 1.2 kilometers (0.7 miles), according to a preliminary assessment.
