Hungary hopes for cooperation with US in nuclear energy

Budapest plans to collaborate with Washington in the field of nuclear energy, including the use of small modular reactors from the US company Westinghouse, Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said after his meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on March 4, AzVision.az reports, citing TASS.

"Marco Rubio and I discussed the possibilities of developing energy cooperation between Hungary and the US, with nuclear energy as a priority. Both Hungary and the US play an important role in ensuring the security of nuclear energy supplies, therefore technological cooperation in this area is promising," Szijjártó wrote on Facebook.

"Westinghouse is one of the leading companies in the global nuclear technology market and can play an important role in the creation of small modular nuclear power plants. These small power plants will be able to reliably produce large amounts of electricity in an environmentally friendly way, so we are interested in developing this technology in collaboration with Westinghouse," he noted.
