State Commission chair criticises Armenia

Ali Naghiyev, Chief of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service and Chairman of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons, met with Kathryne Bomberger, Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), to discuss ongoing efforts to locate Azerbaijani citizens who went missing during Armenia's military aggression.

Naghiyev provided detailed information on the commission's initiatives to search for missing Azerbaijani citizens, emphasizing that President Ilham Aliyev has consistently prioritized this issue. He expressed concern over Armenia's lack of cooperation in clarifying the fate of missing persons, describing their position as unconstructive.

Both parties acknowledged the progress made since their April 2022 meeting, with Naghiyev expressing gratitude for the ICMP's support. Bomberger highlighted the importance of the ICMP's assessment report and expressed confidence that joint efforts would enhance future collaboration between the commissions.

The meeting concluded with a comprehensive exchange of views on accelerating the resolution of missing persons cases.
