Both European leaders emphasized that Azerbaijan remains a vital and reliable partner for the European Union, especially appreciating the country’s support during Europe’s energy needs.
The discussion highlighted Azerbaijan’s key role in Central Asia relations and its leading position in the Middle Corridor. The leaders also welcomed Azerbaijan’s role as a platform facilitating dialogue among various parties to ensure peace and stability both regionally and beyond.
President Aliyev underlined the importance Azerbaijan attaches to its relations with the EU and stressed the country’s contribution to Europe’s energy security. He noted the great potential for expanding energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU, emphasizing Azerbaijan’s current role in supplying energy to 10 European countries, including eight EU member states.
Touching on the country’s strategic role in the Middle Corridor, the President spoke about the investments made in transport infrastructure and the increasing volume of cargo transported through this route.
The talks also covered the strategic partnership agreement signed between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan on transmitting renewable energy resources from Central Asia via the Caspian Sea. Projects for undersea electric cable lines for exporting renewable energy through the Black Sea were also discussed.
The meeting recognized broad opportunities for cooperation with the EU in these areas.
Furthermore, discussions included the activities within the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, where the potential for collaboration with the EU was again highlighted.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
