During the meeting, Farid Murtuzov, head of the agency's Marine Environment Protection Department, discussed the measures taken against potential oil spills in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
He stated that currently the agency is implementing a number of measures to fulfill obligations arising from the 1973 International Convention "On the Prevention of Pollution from Ships" and the Protocol "On Regional Preparedness, Response Measures and Cooperation in Combating Oil Pollution" of the Framework Convention "On the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea".
Representatives of the OSPRI also positively evaluated the measures implemented by the Agency and exchanged views on future bilateral cooperation opportunities.
The OSPRI was established by a group of oil companies (BP, Chevron, Eni, ExxonMobil, KMG, NCOC, Shell and TotalEnergies) to promote reliable, integrated and sustainable response capabilities against oil spills in the Caspian Sea - Black Sea - Central Eurasia region.
