The move will facilitate the provision of electricity and water in Syria. On Friday, the Department of the Treasury issued a general license to provide immediate sanctions relief for Syria.
On May 14, US President Donald Trump held talks with Syria’s interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, in Riyadh. The meeting was the first encounter between the two countries’ leaders in 25 years. Trump said his country would start lifting decades of sanctions on Damascus.
