The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) has lauded the recent signing of a Joint Declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia, calling it a "landmark step" toward normalizing relations between the two nations.
In a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, the UNAOC High Representative, praised the agreement, stating it "demonstrates courage, statesmanship and a commitment to shaping a future of peace, stability and cooperation."
Moratinos emphasized that the declaration sends a strong message to the international community that "dialogue and diplomacy remain the most powerful tools" for resolving even the most complex issues. He expressed confidence that the agreement will serve as a foundation for building trust and unlocking new opportunities for development in the South Caucasus.
The UNAOC High Representative also reaffirmed the organization's commitment to supporting both countries as they begin this new chapter in their relationship. He concluded his message with warm congratulations and best wishes for the continued success of these peace efforts.
