Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk: "We

Moscow and Baku are working to improve relations between the countries, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk in an interview with the Russian newspaper, Vedomosti. He emphasised that the issue was also discussed at a recent intergovernmental commission meeting, where the parties highlighted progress in economic cooperation.

"The existing cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is very important for our countries. Both sides are working to improve relations," Overchuk stated.

In related news, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to take place today during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China.

A meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation was held on August 22 in Astrakhan, chaired by Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and his Russian counterpart, Alexey Overchuk. The parties signed a protocol at the conclusion of the meeting.
