Poland closes border with Belarus indefinitely over security concerns

Poland has closed its border with Belarus for an indefinite period, citing national security concerns, said Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński, AzVision.az reports, citing Polish media.

“The border closure is indefinite. We will continue to monitor and assess the situation,” he said.

Kierwiński explained that the decision was prompted by the ongoing Zapad-2025 military exercises jointly conducted by Russia and Belarus.

On the night of September 10, Poland activated its air defence systems after 19 Russian drones entered its airspace, shooting down four. Wreckage was found in both military and civilian areas.

The incident led to NATO invoking Article 4 consultations, with Secretary General Mark Rutte praising the Alliance’s swift and coordinated response.

Russia denied targeting Poland, claiming the drones’ range was limited to 700 km, but analysts said the Gerbera models carried extra fuel tanks, allowing them to reach Polish territory.
