"Azerbaijan follows international principles of the Olympic movement in ensuring the values of fairness in sports," Rahimov said at a joint congress of the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) and the International Committee for Fair Play, the 21 th General Assembly and awarding ceremony of Fair Play.
According to him, a great attention to the principle of Fair Play was paid during the first ever European Games that took place in June this year in Baku.
"President of Azerbaijan and at the same time the head of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev pays special attention to preserving the values of Olympism and justice and following them. The principle of fair play is an integral part of the Olympic movement in Azerbaijan," Rahimov said.
At the congress the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was awarded the medal "Fair Play" for his contribution to the development of sport and support the principle of Fair Play. Minister of Youth and Sports received the award of the Head of State.
President of EFPM Christian Ginterberger thanked the Azerbaijani side for the initiative to hold the congress in Baku.
"Sport promotes the development of social dialogue and contribute to the peacebuilding," C.Ginterberger said.
He stressed that interesting topics will be discussed at the congress.
Noting that in June this year Azerbaijan took the first high-level European Games, EFPM President said that during the "Baku-2015" there was a lot of moments based on the principle of fair play.
The head of the International Committee for Fair Play Jenő Kamuti said that Azerbaijani sportsmen are committed to the principle of fair play.
"Azerbaijan is at a high level hosted first-ever European Games, which reigned the spirit and the atmosphere of the festival. It can be said that today`s conference is a continuation of the European Games," he said.
According to him, at a time when there is a crisis in many societies related to security, sport is a factor contributing to peace.
