Baku hosted the 18th session of the Conference of Turkic intelligence services, AzVision.az reports.

The event was attended by representatives of the security bodies and special services of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

High-ranking officials of the respective services of Russia, Ukraine and Georgia were represented in the session as observers.

During the event it was noted that the National Security Ministry of Azerbaijan regularly draws the attention of the international structures to the fact that for expansion of their criminal activity and creation of uncontrolled zones, the terrorist organizations set such strategic goals as the seizure of the territories of different countries. The heavy implications of this threat have already been proved on the example of the policy of state terrorism and aggressive separatism of Armenia against Azerbaijan.

"For this reason, the soonest resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will create conditions for closer and multifaceted cooperation between the special services. In the future, such a close cooperation will help prevent the threat posed by the illegal armed formations, such as ISIL that the world community is now encountering. By acting in the territory of several states and trying to expand its circle of influence, this organization continues to pose a serious threat to stability in the world," National Security Minister Elmar Mahmudov said.

He also noted that he highly appreciates the growing cooperation between the bodies of security and special services of the Turkic-speaking states and noted the importance of exchanging information and experience in the sphere of rational provision of national security of the cooperating parties. The Minister expressed confidence that the 18th session of the Conference will have a positive impact on the joint cooperation and raise effectiveness of professional relations between the special services of the states.

Speaking at the session, head of the National Intelligence Organization of Turkey Hakan Fidan spoke about prospects of cooperation of the special bodies in the sphere of raising effectiveness of fight against terrorism and other transnational crimes. The director of the Kazakh external intelligence service Gabit Baijanov stressed the importance of adopting measures against the processes of radicalization, creating the ground for terrorism and strengthening joint fight against any manifestations of extremism.

The speeches and multimedia presentations of other participants were greeted with interest in the event, discussions were held on intensification of cooperation in fighting transnational organized crime, ways of improving the exchange of operative information about the different threats and crimes, and other issues of mutual concern.

A final protocol on results of the session was signed by the end of the event. The next session was scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan next year.
