  20 January martyrs commemorated in Kazakhstan

The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Kazakhstan organized a commemorative event marking the 36th anniversary of the 20 January tragedy.

The participants first observed a minute of silence for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, laid flowers at the bust of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, as well as at the memorial corner dedicated to the 20 January victims at the Embassy.

Addressing the event, Aghalar Atamoghlanov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kazakhstan, described the 20 January tragedy as not only a day of profound mourning in the history of Azerbaijan but also a great source of pride for the Azerbaijani people.

He also highlighted National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s immense contribution to giving political and legal assessment to the 20 January tragedy and other crimes committed against the Azerbaijani people.

The diplomat also touched upon Azerbaijan’s brilliant victory in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of President, Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, as well as the landmark Washington Summit held on August 8, 2025, and the agreements reached there.

Members of the Azerbaijani diaspora also delivered speeches.

The event also featured a photo exhibition highlighting the 20 January events.
