As part of ongoing counter-intelligence operations, Azerbaijan’s State Security Service (SSS) has neutralized several terror plots and espionage activities orchestrated by SEPAH (the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran),  AzVision.az reports.

An explosive device weighing 1,280 grams was discovered near a shipbuilding plant in Baku's Garadagh district. Experts confirmed that the device possessed a lethal blast radius of 250 to 300 meters.

The investigation identified Hafez Tavassoli as the IRGC coordinating agent behind the delivery. Tavassoli contacted an Azerbaijani citizen, Khadija Zakir gizi Agayeva, instructing her to retrieve the package from a specific set of coordinates and keep it for two days. Agayeva eventually moved the box to a concealed location in the Masazir settlement.

After Agayeva confirmed that a person on a motorcycle had retrieved the package, she alerted Tavassoli. Following further instructions from Sajjad Sheikhzadeh Moghaddam Sati Sofli Evad, the recipient—identified as Elvin Bahruz oglu Ahmadov—took the device and hid it near his private residence in the Bilajari settlement.

The Service’s timely intervention prevented the deployment of the high-yield explosive, which was intended for a strategic sabotage operation.
