The North-South and East-West transportation corridors must pass via Azerbaijan. Cargo transportations are carried via the territory of Azerbaijan but their volume sometimes drops. There are objective reasons for this. We need to note this now.
The statement came from President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers on results of socioeconomic development in nine months of 2015 and the upcoming tasks , AzVision.az reports AzerTag.
According to the president, the world is now experiencing crisis: both Asia and Europe, which is why, the overall economic activeness has dropped dramatically.
"Asia and Europe hold trade via Azerbaijan. Therefore, there are both objective and subjective reasons.
Over the past years we have bought new ships, ferries, tankers, cargo ships and cargo aircrafts. A number of international airports have been built in Azerbaijan. Measures are undertaken to develop railroad. Unfortunately, these projects have not been completed yet.
But we have implemented a greater part of works. The International Trade Seaport to become the biggest trade port in the Caspian basin is under construction.
All the same, it is necessary note the great importance of the North-South transportation corridor which will pass via Azerbaijan. This will bring us both the economic and political benefit.
Unfortunately, the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad has not been completed yet, though we started this project in 2007. We have already settled issues within our responsibility and now Turkey must complete the remaining works in its area.
We also must conduct coordination works. We need to attract cargo transporters so that they could transport cargoes via our territory. This is an important moment. I am sure that all the assigned tasks will be fulfilled soon."
