Iran starts mass-production of smart torpedo
Iran
Iran’s Defense Minister, Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan, who was present at the inauguration ceremony, said the smart torpedo system developed by Iranian experts enjoys high speed and highly destructive explosive warheads.

The torpedo is capable of destroying various marine targets including large vessels in a few seconds, Dehghan said, Iran’s State IRINN TV reported Oct. 13.

Valfajr torpedo system, unveiled in 2011, has a 220 kilogram warhead and can be used to destroy heavy vessels.

The torpedo, which can be launched by submarines, is able to operate under different weather conditions, deep or shallow waters and is equipped with advanced safety and arm system.

Under international restrictions, Iran has used domestic talents to improve its military power, frequently unveiling new products.

As a result of the embargo, Iran ’s military capability is drastically limited compared to the US and NATO forces.

Thus, the country’s focus on smart munitions, light attack craft, mines, and ballistic missiles are part and parcel of the asymmetrical conflict war policy the country would rely on in the event of conflict with a global military power.

Since 1992, Iran has been manufacturing its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes. Iran also unveiled its first long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
