V. Sadigov noted that Azerbaijan can never accept the two above mentioned options: "The only acceptable option for us is the provision of high autonomy of the Armenian community on the condition of return to their lands of the Azerbaijani community of the region. International law is on our side. Resolutions of UN Security Council, the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and NATO, calling for the restoration of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories."
The ambassador also touched on the escalation of tension on the contact line of troops in recent weeks: "The increase in military spending not related statements about the intention to attack any state, and due to the intention to defend and liberate their territory. All these years we are still hopeful that the negotiations will lead to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Despite the hopes of peaceful settlement through the efforts of the mediators, we do not exclude to use military force in future to liberate our occupied territories. If the Armenian armed forces are withdrawn from the territory of Azerbaijan, it is based on the 51-th article of the UN Charter, will have to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders".
The ambassador also noted the high level of cooperation between Italy and Azerbaijan in political, economic and cultural spheres: “Italy is an important partner of Azerbaijan in the EU”.
According to the ambassador, with the introduction into service of Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the Azerbaijani gas will be supplied to the European market, and Azerbaijan will become a major supplier of gas to Italy.
Vagif Sadigov also noted that after the events of September 11, 2011 in the United States, Azerbaijan assists the fight against international terrorism.
