US Air Force Confirms F-18 Fighter Jet Crash in UK
A US Air Force official confirmed Wednesday media reports that an F-18 fighter jet crashed shortly after take-off from the US-hosted RAF Lakenheath air base in the British county of Suffolk, according to the NBC News media outlet.
Earlier on Wednesday, media reports said that a US fighter jet returning from combat operations in the Middle East failed to rendezvous with a fuel tanker and crashed 5 miles northwest of Lakenheath.

The aircraft crashed around 70 miles northeast of London, the media reported, citing Senior Airman Amanda Sampson.

The pilot is believed to have ejected, according to media reports. Emergency services have reportedly arrived at the scene of the crash.

RAF Lakenheath is the largest US Air Force-operated base in the country.
