Paris authorities started evacuating hundreds of refugees on Friday from a temporary accommodation center located in the northern part of the city, local media reported.

The authorities initiated the evacuation "to deal with the humanitarian emergency and give [refugees] dignified conditions," Paris Region Police Commissioner Jean-Francois Carenco said, as quoted by the Metro News portal.

According to the portal, some 800 refugees are leaving Jean-Quarre lyceum since around 5:30 a.m. local time (03:30 GMT). The refugees started to board buses an hour later.

According to the information of the media outlet, migrants should be distributed in 20 centers throughout France.

The commissioner assured that "all those who request asylum may remain on the territory [during] the processing time of their case."

Europe is beset by a massive refugee crisis. The EU border agency Frontex estimates that over 710,000 migrants have arrived in the European Union since the start of this year.
