Roscosmos is already building the spacecraft in Moscow and plans to have its first flight in 2021. After its initial flight, Russia plans to dock the spacecraft with the International Space Station in 2023 and then send an unmanned mission to explore the dark side of the moon in 2025.
The mission to the dark side will be operated by a Luna 27 robotic lander that will touch down on the Pole-Atkin crater.
Once the astronauts have gathered enough research from the unmanned lunar mission, they`ll proceed with landing on the moon by 2029.
Russia has been in talks with the European Space Agency and China to create some sort of partnership and plan to colonize the moon.
ESA`s chief Johann-Dietrich Woerner has previously outlined proposals for an international space village echoing Russian`s vision.
"We have an ambition to have European astronauts on the Moon," said Berengere Houdou, head of the lunar exploration group at ESA`s European Space Research and Technology Centre. "There are currently discussions at international level going on for broad cooperation on how to go back to the Moon."
Meanwhile, NASA is trying to land on Mars by 2030 and has no current plans for any moon landings.
