No law violations were detected during the voting process, he said.
“The election was held in accordance with the European standards. We have observed elections in many countries within the OSCE and Council of Europe so far. I can say with confidence that the election in Azerbaijan were the most democratic elections I have observed so far,” he added.
He touched on false opinions about Azerbaijan.
“I think that isolating a country like Azerbaijan and OSCE’s not sending observers is a negative point. There is great need for Azerbaijan in the current international crisis. Both religious and cultural fundamentalism creates problems in some fields. Azerbaijan should be an example for Europe and the international community,” he said.
The senator went on to add that Italy’s observation of the Azerbaijani election is protest against the resolution adopted by the European Parliament.
Fiorella Provera, a member of the Italian mission, said that he considers himself a friend of Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan is an example of co-existence of several religions. Muslims, Christians and Jews are co-existing here. Azerbaijan has chosen its path of democracy. The world is in need of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is an important country in the geo-strategic point of view, it also has energy resources. The international community should mainly worry about the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, he said.
