Azerbaijan mitigates conviction for juveniles who committed crimes
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed an order on application of law adopted on October 20, 2015 "On Amendments to the Criminal Code".
The Cabinet of Ministers is to develop proposals on conforming the laws and the president’s acts to the law “On Amendments to the Criminal Code” within 3 months, to provide conforming the normative legal acts of the Cabinet of Ministers to the order within 3 months, as well as control the conforming of the normative legal acts of the central executive power bodies with order and inform the president about its fulfillment within 5 months.

According to the amendments to the Criminal Code, the conviction specified on the Article #83.3 of the Code is mitigated for juveniles and the release of conviction is estimated after the expiration of the following periods:

6 months from the date of serving relatively lighter punishment than the imprisonment;

1 year from the date of serving the punishment of imprisonment for crimes, not representing big public danger and less serious crimes;

3 years from the date of serving the punishment of imprisonment for serious or extremely serious crimes.
