Armenians must know that in isolation they are unprotected
Azerbaijan relies on people, the army and the country`s president on its way towards liberation of its lands from the occupation, chairman of Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh public association, head of the executive power of Shusha region Bayram Safarov said on May 8 after visiting the Alley of Honor in Baku during the 22nd anniversary of the occupation of Shusha by Armenian armed forces.
"The Azerbaijani president`s speech at the Prague summit with the participation of heads of states and governments, dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the EU Eastern Partnership program, once again clearly proved that he is the leader of all Turkic peoples and the Azerbaijani lands will be liberated from the occupation under his leadership," he said.

"Armenians must know that while staying in isolation, they are unprotected," he said.

"The population of Shusha was 23,000 people until 1989, while 20,000 of whom were Azerbaijanis and only 3,000 - Armenians," he added.

"Currently, the number of Azerbaijani natives of Shusha reaches 31,500 people," Safarov said.
He stressed that the Azerbaijani army is provided with the most modern weapons.

"The funds allocated for the army in Azerbaijan as a whole exceed the state budget of Armenia," he added.

Safarov said that today`s Azerbaijan is an independent country which under the leadership of President Aliyev achieved great success in the world.

In conclusion, Safarov recalled the words of President Aliyev, who stressed that all occupied areas of Azerbaijan will be released and the flag of the country will fly over Shusha.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
