The Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Centre and the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security have held a conference in Washington D.C. on Joining Caucasus to the world: Railways and Pipelines.
Hosts of the conference were the director of the Woodrow Wilson International Centre, William Pomerantz, and the lead researched of the Heritage Foundation, Ariel Cohen, Gun.Az reports referring to the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States.
Cohen spoke about the history of energy in Azerbaijan, the role of the country in this field, as well as the energy resources in the Caspian basin and their significance in ensuring the energy security of Europe.
Addressing the event, assistant energy minister of the US Jonathan Elkind spoke about the history of energy projects in the region, underlining the challenges encountered on the path of implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. He also noted the importance of the South Gas Corridor.
Joining discussions on the first panel of the conference on Railway Silk Road: Joining Europe and Asia, advisor of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the US Nargiz Gurbanova spoke about the transformation of Azerbaijan into a regional transit hub.
