Azerbaijan invites Iran to use its logistics center in Kazakhstan
Azerbaijan has invited Iran to use its logistics center in Kazakh Aktau city.
The proposal was announced Nov.18 at the meeting of Minister of Economy and Industry of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev with the delegation headed by Governor of Iranian Gilan province Mohammadali Najafi.

It was noted at the meeting that improvement of activity of the North-South transport corridor will increase transit opportunities [of the two countries], as well as contribute to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, including the province of Gilan.

In addition, the issue of holding the next Azerbaijani-Iranian business forum and exhibition was raised during the meeting as part of the next visit of the Iranian delegation.

Minister of Economy and Industry of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev said that in the first quarter of 2016, it is planned to complete the first phase of the coordination project for the construction of the railway between Azerbaijan and Iran.

He also stressed that the Bilasuvar and Astara border checkpoints will move to the 24-hour operation.

In turn, the governor of the province of Gilan said that certain work was done for the expansion of ties between the two countries in a short period of time.

He said that the Anzali Port and Special Economic Zone of Iran create opportunities for agricultural exports to third countries.

In January-October 2015, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Iran amounted to $98.8 million, of which imports of Iranian products accounted for more than $72 million, according to the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan. During the year, the trade turnover between the two countries fell by almost 39 percent.
