Representatives of the OSCE special monitoring mission in Donetsk “heard loud explosions in the city outskirts to the east and south of the city center,” the report published on August 16, said, noting the situation in northern Donetsk was calm.
Sergei Kavtaradze, a member of the Security Council of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, told Itar-Tass that the Ukrainian army was pounding Donetsk with shells every day.
“Donetsk, including the city center, comes under daily artillery shelling,” Kavtaradze said. He added the attacks caused civilians casualties: 10-15 civilians are injured and several get killed every day.
Donetsk urgently needs relief aid.
“The pharmacies are running out of medical supplies, food in shops is scarce; the banking system has collapsed and people cannot withdraw money from credit cards,” Kavtaradze stressed.
