Gauck said Germany has shown great effort during the Syrian refugee crisis. "But we see that not all countries are like our country," Gauck said ahead of a meeting with Jordan`s
King Abdullah II in Amman. At the same time, Gauck said it is a duty to help the neighboring countries of
Syria such as Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey since they receive more refugees than the rest of the world does.
Jordan has received about 700,000 refugees and has a population of merely 8 million people. Turkey also hosts more than 2 million refugees with Lebanon accommodating 1.3 million Syrian refugees. The EU has promised Turkey $3 billion in aid.
Gauck said he hopes that concrete decisions will be made by the EU in the coming months to help cope with the refugee crisis.
