Military sites were attacked in Burundi`s capital during a night of heavy gunfire and explosions, an official and soldiers said on Friday, the latest flare up in violence in a nation Western powers fear will slide back into ethnic conflict.
Presidential media adviser Willy Niyamitwe said on Twitter that opponents attacked military camps as part of "a diversion" to free prisoners but said the raids "failed". Two soldiers, who asked not be named, told Reuters attacks targeted three military sites, citing colleagues they spoke to on the scene.
