Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey interested in defense capability strengthening
Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey are interested in working out a plan to strengthen the defense capability, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania said in an interview with Imedi TV company Aug. 22.

"The representatives of the governments of these three countries start to think about working out a plan to strengthen the defense capability," he said.

"This is in the interests of Europe and NATO, as this transit route [Baku-Tbilisi-Kars] is used to transport the alliance`s cargo to Afghanistan."

"Moreover, it is necessary to emphasize that these actions are not directed against anyone," Alasania said.

"Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey implement joint projects of strategic importance," he said.

The defense ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia Zakir Hasanov, Ismet Yilmaz and Irakli Alasania also agreed at a recent meeting that these countries will hold joint military exercises, Azerbaijani defense minister Zakir Hasanov told media earlier.
He added that the purpose of the exercises is to increase the combat capability of the armed forces.

"An agreement was reached during the meeting to hold meetings in this format twice a year, to organize joint workshops and conferences, to create a trilateral format in military education and cooperation in the military-technical sphere," he added. "It is also planned to organize meetings of experts to examine the promising areas of cooperation."
