Russia won`t adopt bill criminalizing Armenian genocide denial
The bill criminalizing denial of the "Armenian genocide" won
Federal Agency on Nationality Issues head Igor Barinov made the remarks at the press conference titled “State strategy on national policy: end of the year” held in TASS agency.

“Our position is that historical events shouldn’t be forgotten. However, it doesn’t mean that we should only talk about the negative events in the history. Nothing should be forgotten, but we should spoke about positive things,” he said.

Member of the Council on International Relations under the Russian President, expert from the working group on the strategy’s development, Vladimir Zorin said that the adoption of the bill submitted to the State Duma by Just Russia party would have negative impact on national unity and lead to serious consequences. “It is wrong to involve Russian public organizations in such matters. This could have grave consequences,” he said.

Aslambek Paskachev, Head of the Supreme Council of the Russian Congress of Peoples of the Caucasus said that the adoption of the law on criminal prosecution of those who denies “Armenian genocide” will inflict a devastating blow to the national unity in Russia. “Every people have experienced tragedies. A lot of people have lost their lives during the wars. It is not right to blame and punish someone for the tragedies in history. This is a devastating way, especially in multinational Russia… Yes, no historical event should be forgotten. However, we need to look to the future. The adoption of the draft law will disrupt national unity in Russia”, said Paskachev.
