Azerbaijan against use of human rights as pressure tool
Azerbaijan is against the use of human rights as a tool for pressure, Samad Seyidov, head of the Azerbaijan-US inter parliamentary working group, told reporters on Dec.24.
Seyidov said that a legislative initiative by Rovshan Rzayev, deputy chairman of Azerbaijani parliament’s Committee on legal policy and state-building, against US Congressman Chris Smith’s anti-Azerbaijan bill has not been discussed at the committee level yet.

According to him, Rzayev’s initiative relies upon a constitutional right.

“I understand him. Various organizations and countries nowadays use human rights as a tool for pressure on other states. It’s more than clear that behind is these pressures stand the anti-Azerbaijan Armenian lobby,” said Seyidov.

Seyidov noted that he believes the bill is unlikely to draw support from Congress.

“The bill contains lies and misinformation, so I don’t think this it’s going to win any support in the US Congress. Chris Smith has used his constitutional right, too. However, human rights should not be used as a tool for pressure,” he said.
