The peacekeeping contingent of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces has been serving under the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan since November 20, 2002.
Currently, 94 Azerbaijani servicemen, 2 medical officers and 2 sappers are participating in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.

As many as 42 Azerbaijani servicemen, who are serving under the NATO-led Resolute Support mission launched in Afghanistan, were seen off to Afghanistan on a rotating basis, the Defense Ministry said on Jan.7.
