The H1N1 epidemic, commonly known as swine flu, has already caused 14 fatalities in Armenia in the first two weeks of 2016, while 3 other citizens had died at the end of 2015.
In a statement issued Saturday morning, the country’s Health Ministry said 3 of this year’s 11 deaths occurred Friday, January 15; two of the deceased had been hospitalized on January 13 in critical condition, and both of them also suffered with chronic diseases – diabetes and cardio-pulmonary insufficiency.

The third victim, officials said, had been admitted to hospital on January 9 again in critical condition. The Ministry stresses that the patient had been ill since January 1 but “did not apply for medical treatment.”

As of January 15 official statistics, a total number of 992 people with acute respiratory infections have applied for hospital treatment, 873 of them – minors. 502 of the patients are suffering from pneumonia. According to the Health Ministry, 98 people were in intensive care unit and 121 pregnant women remained in hospitals as of Friday evening.
