"We will not give up our fundamental position”

“At the meeting with Prime Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu, we discussed ways to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. I informed the Prime Minister on the current situation”, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said during a join statement with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Baku.

The head of state said with regret that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unresolved because of Armenia’s unconstructive position:

“Azerbaijan`s internationally recognized territories are under occupation. This conflict differs from others in the post-Soviet area by four UN Security Council resolutions. The UN Security Council is the most influential international organization in the world. This organization passed four resolutions, Armenian side just ignores and does not execute them. Unfortunately, the activity of mediators brings no results and international law is roughly violated by the Armenian side. There are decisions and resolutions of international organizations to resolve the conflict. The conflict must be resolved on the basis of these decisions and resolutions within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The day will come when Azerbaijan will fully restore its territorial integrity”, President Aliyev said.

Expressing his gratitude to the Turkish government for its constant support to Azerbaijan, the President said that Turkey has always taken a fair position, lining with international law and principles.

“Today Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and South Caucasus oil pipelines and other projects are being implemented without the participation of Armenia. If the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno Karabakh is resolved, there will be good conditions for cooperation in the region. Anyway, we will not give up our fundamental position and try to resolve the conflict soon”, the president said.
