Number of Syria refugees fleeing to Turkey hits 100,000
Some 100,000 Syrians have fled northern Syria into Turkey over ISIL atrocities in less than a week, a Turkish official says, Press TV reported.

The Syrians who crossed into the country have fled from the border city of Kobane after the ISIL Takfiri militants advanced in the region, the head of Turkey`s disaster management agency, Fuat Oktay, said on Sunday.

The agency noted that it was prepared for the influx of refugees and even worse.

Earlier in the day, the UN Refugee Agency said 70,000 Syrian Kurds fled to Turkey in the past 24 hours.

The large-scale displacement came after the militants attacked scores of Syrian villages. The ISIL has recently captured more than 60 Kurdish villages around Kobane.

Meanwhile, Kurdish fighters continue battling the ISIL terrorists in an effort to contain their advances into Syrian villages and cities.

Syrian Kurds, fleeing clashes between the ISIL and Kurdish fighters in Kobane and the surrounding areas, have been massing along the Turkish border since September 18.

Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus has warned that the ISIL terrorists are now only about eight kilometers away from the Turkish territory.

Some 1.5 million Syrian refugees have taken refuge in Turkey in over three years of conflict in Syria.

The ISIL militants have seized swathes of land in Iraq and Syria. They have carried out heinous crimes in the two countries including mass executions and beheadings of people.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. More than 191,000 people have been killed in over three years of fighting in the war-ravaged country, says the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), calling the figure a probable “underestimate of the real total number of people killed.”
