Muslumov said that all employees shall register their labor contracts and pay social insurance fees: “In this case, those people are almost insured from losing their jobs. In accordance with the state law “On mandatory social insurance", being unemployed is one of the social insurance cases. Today, there is no special social insurance rate on unemployment in Azerbaijan. However, appropriate funds are intended for this purpose at the expense of budget funds of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The State Employment Service under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has its centers in districts. If all unemployed people’s labor contracts have been registered and paid social insurance fees, they have the right to get unemployment benefit in the amount of 70% of 1-year average monthly salary o within 6 months”, said Muslumov.
The minister mentioned that the average monthly amount of unemployment benefits made nearly AZN 252 in 2015. “Why does this amount seem low? Because there are many people who didn’t have any salaries in the previous 12 months. In this case, they were paid minimum amount of unemployment benefits. Now, this is equal to AZN 55. Mr. President gave instructions on raising unemployment benefits. The Cabinet of Ministers will soon make amendments. As far as I am informed, this amount is expected to raised by 40%”, added the minister.
