Government announcement demanding migrants learn English misspells the word `language`
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said everyone is “open to mistakes”, adding that he is “fully confident” of his civil servants’ grasp of English.
It comes after the headline of a Home Office policy announcement read: “New English langauge test for family route migrants.”
Just days earlier Mr Cameron had said Muslim women who refused to learn English could be deported.
The Prime Minister said: “You have to be able to speak a basic level of English now to come into the country as a husband or wife.”
The hardline stance came as Mr Cameron announced a new £20m fund to teach Muslim women in the UK to speak English to help counter radicalisation.
The blunder was said to be “beyond parody” and led to a response from Number 10 at a press briefing for Westminster journalists.
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “All of us are open to mistakes at times. The Prime Minister is fully confident that his team speak English competently. I`m sure there have been a few errors occasionally in newspapers, too.”
