The International Forum of the No Hate Speech Movement has today kicked off in Gabala.

The forum at Heydar Aliyev Conference Hall is being attended by the representatives of the Azerbaijani government and the Council of Europe. The forum that will last till October 5 is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Republic, National Assembly of Youth Organizations of Azerbaijan (NAYORA), Council of Europe and Youth Department of the Directorate of Democratic Citizenship and Participation of the Council of Europe within Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. 250 representatives from 47 European states are attending the forum. The Forum aims to bring together young people and other activists involved in the No Hate Speech Movement at national and European level, to share experiences, achievements and expectations, and to contribute to the follow-up and consolidation of the Movement and its achievements at national and European level. International and local participants will discuss hate speech and discrimination issues and how to combat them.

The “No Hate Speech Movement” is a Council of Europe youth campaign designed to promote human rights online, reduce levels of acceptance of hate speech and foster online youth participation and citizenship, including in Internet governance processes. The campaign is run by the Council of Europe, but is based on national campaigns run in the member states of the Council of Europe. The National Assembly of Youth Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan is the national coordinator of the No Hate Speech Movement in Azerbaijan and launched its campaign in May 2013. NAYORA has implemented several activities such as: “Youth Week” dedicated to International Youth Day, the “No Hate Speech” Photo Competition and Exhibition and the regional project “From East to West No Hate Speech” within the campaign. Azerbaijan developed a campaign pledge and submitted to the Council of Europe.
