The Australian posted a photo on Instagram Monday with a bandage on his nose and the caption, “an example of what happens when you don’t wear sunscreen.”
Jackman explained that he had basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer. The condition most often develops in sun-exposed areas and manifests as scab-like, red lesions on the skin.
Basal cell carcinoma affects between 50-60,000 Canadians annually, the Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation estimates.
“PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups,” Jackman wrote.
It’s not the first time the X-Men star, who plays Wolverine in the popular film series, has suffered from this type of cancer.
Over two years ago, Jackman wrote online that his wife advised him to get a mark on his nose checked. “Boy, was she right!” Jackman wrote at the time.
“I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don`t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
