5 Yemeni policemen killed in attack by gunmen in Aden
Five Yemeni policemen were killed on Friday in an armed attack by unknown gunmen in Yemen`s southern port city of Aden, a government official told.
According to the Aden-based government official, a group of militants believed to be al-Qaida members attacked a police station in Aden`s district of Daar Saad, killing five policemen and injuring 3 others.

Local residents told Xinhua that "masked attackers fired rocket-propelled grenades at the police building and then opened heavy fire randomly."

Ambulances rushed to evacuate the injured policemen to a nearby public hospital while police forces traced the attackers, according to local sources.

The port city of Aden, Yemen`s temporary capital, has been witnessing a state of chaos and lawlessness during the past weeks resulted in the assassination of Aden`s former governor, several high-ranking security officers and judges.

Yemen, an impoverished Arab country, has been gripped by one of the most active regional al-Qaida insurgencies in the Middle East and the affiliate of the Islamic State.

The security situation in the country has deteriorated since March when war broke out between the Shiite Houthi group, supported by former President Ali Abdullash Saleh, and the government backed by a Saudi-led Arab coalition.
