European Parliament didn`t establish friendship group with Karabakh regime
Information on the establishment of a friendship group with the separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh by the European Parliament is not true, speaker Oktay Asadov said on the plenary session of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) held Oct.17.

He said that this information was distributed only by Armenian media outlets.

The speaker said that the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh is like a toy in the hands of a number of countries and organizations.

The Azerbaijani side should be active in this issue, especially the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh, Asadov said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
