Istanbul police holding special operation against PKK
Istanbul police are carrying out a security operation against the Kurdistan Workers` Party (PKK), the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported March 7.
There are already detained ones within the framework of the operation, the number and identity of them are not disclosed.

The PKK has in recent months become active in the south-east of Turkey, and its attacks on military units and police stations have increased.

Over 200 Turkish servicemen were killed in clashes with the PKK in 2015.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by the UN and the European Union.
