Armenian parliament to discuss EEU treaty ratification this month
The National Assembly of Armenia is to convene for a special session later this month to discuss and ratify a recently signed treaty on the country’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The head of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia’s (RPA) parliamentary faction Vahram Baghdasaryan saidç the special session is likely to be held on November 17-18.

As quoted by RFE/RL’s Armenian Service, the RPA representative said the parliament will go ahead with the debate and ratification if the Constitutional Court provides its conclusion on the treaty.

Armenia signed the treaty to accede to the EEU on October 10 and hopes its ratification will be completed in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan by the beginning of next year so that it can become a full member already from January when the trade bloc is to be formally launched.

Experts estimate that considering the fact that most opposition factions in the Armenian parliament are not supportive of the deal, the ratification of the treaty might meet obstacles.
