With regard to the migrant influx to Europe, he said European institutions are facing ‘a time-delay bomb’.
“Today, European institutions are unable to cope with the migrant crisis. The number of migrants is growing. European leaders are facing serious challenges and there are different trends in the society,” Landi added.
Recep Meydani, former President of Albania, stressed the need for transition to cultural pluralism, noting the importance of multiculturalism.
He said the EU’s policy to settle Syrian refugees in all countries is wrong, considering the settlement of Syrians in Turkey ‘a right decision’.
After the Syrian crisis is over, these people will be able to go back, Meydani added.
Speaking at the panel, Rosalia Arteaga Serrano, former president of Ecuador, noted that it is important to know what feelings people have while becoming migrants or receiving migrants.
“We need to combine local and global civil concepts and respect people,” the former president said, stressing the importance of reforms in the education sphere in terms of overcoming these problems.
Lothar de Maizière, former prime minister of Germany, said the ongoing migrant crisis is one of the biggest challenges for Germany.
Germany definitely wants to solve this problem, the former PM said, referring to the Hungarian president’s statement “the refugee problem is a problem of Angela Merkel”.
“However, it should be considered that the migrant problem emerged after the US troops entered Iraq. In Turkey, camps should be set up for migrants, and migrant children must go to school. Europe should pay for it, it is wrong to put the entire burden on the shoulders of Turkey. We are against two parallel societies in Germany,” he added.
Senate Linda Lanzilotta, vice-president of the Italian Senate, in her speech, said Italy, Greece and Turkey can make join efforts to tackle the migrant crisis, rejecting the construction of walls for the prevention of migrant influx.
Jean Baderschneider, former vice-president of Exxon Mobile, said that migrants having no education and specialty are in very vulnerable situation, underlining the impossibility of ensuring safe migration.
