Turkey purchases natural gas from US for first time
Turkey imported natural gas from the United States (US) in January 2016 for the first time, according to the Natural Gas Sector Report of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
According to the EPDK, Turkey broke a record for natural gas consumption and import. It purchased 83 million cubic meters of liquid natural gas (LNG) from the US, about 7.15 percent of its total LNG import and 1.54 percent of Turkey`s total natural gas imports.

The purchase was made as a part of 1.16 billion cubic meters in LNG imports, 520 million of which was purchased through the spot market.

The US was followed by Qatar with 437 million cubic meters of LNG exported to Turkey.
