Five people, including a pregnant woman, have been slightly injured in a severe fire on the border between the northeastern emirates of Ajman and Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates, the Al Ittihad newspaper reported Tuesday.

On Monday evening, the fire erupted in two high-rise buildings in a residential estate of 12 towers. Over 10 floors were engulfed in flames.

The fire destroyed cars at the parking lot adjacent to the towers. Residents of the buildings were evacuated.

Severe fires often take place in high-rise buildings in the UAE. The last major fire occurred in Dubai on New Year`s Eve when the five-star Address Hotel of 63 floors almost burned out in the city center.
