Cameras to be installed in Azerbaijan mosques to monitor sermons
Cameras will be installed in mosques in Azerbaijan to monitor sermons, said the Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO), Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade.
He made the remarks at an event held Wednesday at the CMO in connection with 31 March — the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.

“I will create a group to monitor sermons in mosques. I need to know what the sermons are preached in mosques. One can regard it as a little political issue, however, as the CMO chairman, I have such a right,” Pashazade said.

The CMO chairman stressed the necessity of religious figures’ support to the state.

Despite religion is separate from state according to the Azerbaijani legal system religious figures must convey the truth to the people, he added.

“We must all try to protect our state. Religious figures should actively participate in government-organized events. A handful of people say “if you have mentioned the word ‘state’, you’re not speaking truthfully”. Those who say this are in fact on a wrong path themselves. Religious figures must support the state,” the CMO chairman said.

The State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations and the Caucasian Muslims Office will prepare joint sermons after considering proposals from religious figures in various places, according to Pashazade.

Cursing the recent terror attacks in Brussels, Pashazade noted that the international community really responds differently to the terrorist attacks in Lahore and Ankara versus Brussels.
