Azerbaijan, UAE discuss possibility of expanding air communication
The UAE is interested in opening a direct flight from Nakhchivan to Dubai, said the protocol signed Nov.17 on the results of the fifth session of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic and technical cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates.

The document also said that the Azerbaijani side is ready to start discussions of the issue of direct air flights of the EtihadAirways Company between Abu Dhabi and Baku with the UAE side.

Earlier, EtihadAirways announced the launch of flights from Abu Dhabi to Baku, which will be carried out four times a week the following year.

Flights on this route will begin October, 1 2015 and will be implemented on an AirbusA320 airliner. The airline expects that it will serve more than 1,000 passengers in a week.

"Start of the EtihadAirways flights in Heydar Aliyev International Airport is an integral part of our strategy in building links in the actively developing Caucasus region," said earlier the President and EtihadAirways CEO James Hogan.

Since 2009, regular flights from Dubai to Baku have been performed by FlyDubai airline. Azerbaijan Airlines state airline also flies in this direction.

The importance of the signing of the draft agreement on maritime transport between the two countries was also stressed at a meeting of the intergovernmental comission.
