The president said that Armenian armed units in the last few days have once again resorted to a provocation, and the Azerbaijani side has given a desired response to the Armenian side.
President Aliyev thanked the Russian side for efforts towards reducing the escalation. “Russian President Vladimir Putin called me and the Armenian president,” he said.
In turn, Russian PM Medvedev said that the relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are strategic in nature.
With regard to the latest developments on the contact line of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops, Medvedev said the escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh is not a usual situation.
Russia, as a member of the UN Security Council and the OSCE Minsk Group, is trying to resolve the conflict, the PM added.
“The negotiations should be continued. Russia will spare no effort to resolve the conflict,” Medvedev stressed.
