3 Armenians detained in Georgia for attempted sale of uranium

"Members of criminal group - three Armenian citizens and three Georgian citizens - who planned to sell radioactive substance uranium U238 for a sum of $200 million were detained," the service said in a press statement. "An industrial transport container with uranium was seized at the apartment of one of the gang’s members."

According to the Georgian security service, the radiology review revealed that the substance is hazardous for human health.

A case was opened on charges of illegal possession and sale of radioactive materials which are punishable by a prison term from five to ten years. Investigation is conducted by the Georgian security service’s counter-intelligence department.
