Moldovan police patrol central Chisinau amid anti-gov
Moldovan law enforcement agencies are fully mobilized for city patrolling due to the planned protests, the General Inspectorate of Police said Sunday.
Moldova`s Interior Ministry has mobilized all units of the country’s law enforcement agencies due to the planned anti-government protests, the General Inspectorate of Police said Sunday.

"The number of law enforcement agency’s employees during the protest action will be enough to ensure public order and safety," the General Police Inspectorate told RIA Novosti.

At the moment, hundreds of police officers are patrolling the streets of Chisinau. Cordons of law enforcement personnel have lined up in front of the parliament and government buildings.

Massive rallies are being held Sunday in the Moldovan capital to urge the government to hold snap parliamentary elections along with the presidential ones on October 30 as well as to demand the resignation of the current Cabinet.

The protests have been staged by the center-right opposition Civic Platform Dignity and Truth (DA). The intention to participate in the rally has been voiced by the representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party, as well as former head of the country`s Education Ministry Maia Sandu.

At this point, several hundreds of protesters have gathered on the central square of the Moldovan capital. People still continue to arrive there. The activists chant: "Early elections", "Down with the government," "Resignation!"

Chisinau has been engulfed in protests since September 2015, with rallies erupting sporadically. A coalition of opposition forces has been demanding the resignation of the Moldovan president, the prime minister and the chief prosecutor. They have also called for early parliamentary elections, a direct presidential election and quick action to tackle corruption in the country.
